Custer State Park and The Black Hills

  1. Your pictures brought back so many memories! I fell in love with the entire state of South Dakota during our road trip in 2019. We made a day trip to Custer State Park and the Needles Highway. The only wildlife we saw were the donkeys, LOL. We enjoyed every bit of the Needles Highway but it’s definitely not a drive I would want to make in bad weather. I’m looking forward to your next post. Safe travels!

    1. There is a lot to love about South Dakota. Those donkeys sure make their presence know. I am happy you have so many fond memories here. Thanks for reading and enjoy your day.

  2. I love this post! Your great photos brought back many fond memories of our two trips there. Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse were two must see stops on our first RV trip in 2006. We returned in 2011 to camp at Game Lodge Campground in Custer State Park. We could see that they had made some progress on Crazy Horse. I agree – Needles Highway and Iron Mountain Road are must sees. I agree with you on Wind Cave.

    1. Yes, Wind Caves was a bust for us. In all fairness, at least they were open and we could have made the one hour early morning drive to be in line by 7:00 a.m. Jewel Cave, not far away, was closed due to elevator problems. Not everything turns out as hoped but are enjoying the adventure. Glad you enjoyed the post. Have a good weekend.

  3. This is a wonderful post. We are in the planning stages for our Yellowstone trip in August of 2022. We are hoping to visit Custer State Park on that trip as well. So, I am glad to read all about the area. Perhaps Wind Cave will change how tickets are sold before our visit. Your pictures are beautiful as always. How nice you were able to meet up with friends so far from home. And I am glad you were able to escape any storm damage. Thanks for writing this post. Enjoy your day, and safe travels!

    1. It is a wonderful area with so much to see. We just scratched the surface. Needles Highway and Iron Mountain Highway are must-do as well as Mount Rushmore. There are a couple of more that I’ll highlight in the next post. Thanks, as always. Have a great weekend.
