Beginning in 2019, every spring and summer, we traveled around the country in our travel trailer while blogging and sharing our adventures with family and friends. We were having the time of our lives seeing epic places and meeting people along the way. Surprising to me, the blog was growing as people started to follow our weekly stories. Then suddenly without notice, we seemingly vanished and the blogposts stopped. “What happened, you might ask?” Where did we go? Did we get abducted by aliens?” Well…sadly no. It was not as exciting as that.
It all started on a beautiful day with a clear blue sky and warm August breeze. We were up and out early to explore the town of Harper’s Ferry, learn it’s history, and visit the nearby Civil War battlefields. As I recall we were not disappointed in those adventures. Up to that point we were having a great day. As we headed back to the campground to settle in for the evening, things turned for the worst. We got into an accident! Through no fault of our own, our truck was totaled and we were on our way to the hospital.
I am not going to go into the details of the accident on these pages. It’s a difficult subject, one I find hard to recount. Suffice it to say, it was a life altering event that ended our travels. We were hurt, shaken, and confused. We were stranded miles from home. We became overwhelmed with a hopelessness I had not felt before. Fortunately, our kids came to the rescue and brought us back home to recover the best we could.
The following year, 2023, was a time for healing. There were a lot of doctor appointments and physical therapy. We struggled to get back on our feet and remain sanguine. The process was slow and the recovery took longer than expected.
Now, that is behind us. We are ready to move on, to start a new adventure and return to normalcy.
Our plans for the spring and summer of 2024 include a four months long road trip through the Midwest and around the Great Lakes. We’ve been planning it for months. I intend to write and make post to the blog during our travels. I may not post consistently. I may not be very interesting. Hell! I may not even be coherent. After all, I took a wallop to the noggin, so I have an excuse. What I hope to do is document our travels and to possibly pass along some useful information.

If you are really curious to know more about the accident, you can probably find some information by Googling “Amtrack train vs truck in Brunswick, Maryland, August, 2022”. It was the leading news story of the day.
We have a quick shakedown trip planned soon. With that, we can work out the kinks and knock off the rust before heading out on the long trip. God willing…that will be the subject of our next blog.
Until then…Happy Days and Safe Travels.
I’m so sorry. I’m glad to hear you’re doing better now. I have wondered many times about you and Grammi. I had thought you just weren’t traveling and blogging. I am so sorry to hear of your accident and all you had to go through afterwards to heal and recover. I was so happy to see a post from you this morning, and I am glad to know all this is behind you. I do hope you’ll write posts as you travel. Your posts were filled with the joy and wonder and awe of travel and often touched my heart. Writing is also good brain exercise – which is good for everyone. The Midwest and the Great Lakes (well, mostly Michigan) are near and dear to my heart, so I look forward to reading about your adventures. Safe travels to you and Grammi!
